This week I’m putting on my editor’s hat and responding to both critical and creative writing from my five students in the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA program in creative writing. They are all super bright and great writers, so the process is a treat, like literary dessert. Still there is a price to pay for the pleasure — my own writing time is compromised when I’m critiquing others’ work. So as not to completely drop the ball, I’m getting up early and working on the new novel before breakfast. Write, eat, critique, repeat. Oh, and fit in a mountain bike ride before lunch. Life is good.
