Full Steam Ahead

The shortest day of the year, and I just finished the longest scene of my new novel -- Don't Forget to Put Your Pants On, and Other Very Important Tips for Middle School Coolness. Long title, I know. Maybe I'll shorten it. But now is not the time. Now is the time for full steam ahead. If I can keep the story-train on the tracks, I'll finish this first draft by . . . well, okay, by New Year's Eve at the absolute latest. Yay! A nice way to round out 2012.

Of course 2013 will begin with rewriting. Much rewriting. TONS of rewriting. But that's okay. It's part of the process, and I actually love it. How often in life do you get a do-over? Not often, except when writing. As a writer, I get as many do-overs as I need. Give me enough time and I'll eventually root out my best. Kids deserve that -- the best I can give.
