Inspiration

Last weekend was one for rock climbing and camping with my family in the desert of Central Oregon. Particularly inspiring was my son-in-law, Alex, who was born without a left hand. Despite the obvious limits, he climbs with as much enthusiasm and commitment as any of us. He is fearless, and never uses his disability as an excuse for failure. If he falls, he just laughs as he dangles on the rope, then gets back up on the rock and tries again. Heroic is a word that comes to mind. He'd make a good protagonist for a story . . .
