Kids these days

Halloween. Trick-or-treaters at the door. Not sure if we'd stocked up on enough candy, my wife and I offered a choice: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (if you have been living on another planet and are not familiar with these delectables, think peanut butter coated in a generous layer of chocolate) or clementine oranges (yeah, those little dudes that are easy to peel). I figured that, like me when I was their age, the kids would of course take the candy over fruit.

How wrong I was. The oranges were just as popular as the sweets. I kept wanting to say to the clementine fans, "Wait, are you deluded? We're talking chocolate and peanut butter, and TONS of sugar! Where are your priorities?" But no, I kept my mouth shut, and . . . I have to admit, I marveled at their choice. Kids these days. Maybe there's hope for the planet, after all.
