Whatever Works

Aristotle said: "Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an action but a habit." In other words, writers, keep at it and eventually you'll come up with your best. 

On the other hand we have P.G. Wodehouse, who, according to the Writer's Almanac, wrote almost one hundred books of fiction, 16 plays, and composed lyrics for 28 musicals. When asked about his technique for writing, he said, "I just sit at a typewriter and curse a bit." Which translates into the same thing as Aristotle said -- sorta, kinda, maybe, ish. 

Regardless, the bottom line is this: writing isn't easy. Find what works for you, and do it over and over again. 

P.S. But if you're going to curse at the keyboard, I'm thinking that you should probably do that in the privacy of your own home.
